Olga! she da worst
The Character in this story is named Olga, she is a waitress at a local diner and barely makes minimum wage. When you look at her you can tell she is depressed by her pale face and invisible smile. She wears all black no matter what the occasion is and has many cuts up and down her arms and legs. She is a little over weight because she just had a new born baby. Her life is based around her little new born baby, Oliver. Her best qualities deal with providing for her baby, she is a really hard worker, you can tell my all the calluses on her hands. Her one wish in life is she wants her baby to have a better childhood then she ever had. As a kid Olga, was a bright student and loved her life, until one day she came home and saw her father cheating on her mother with his secretary from work. Her father threatened her life when she said she was going to tell mommy. Every since the moment where her fathers fist put an imprint into her 10 year old jaw she was never the same. When it comes to Olga making friends and such, she is a very shy person and isn't the first person to become friends with a stranger. She only regrets moment in her life: is when she got in a fight with her boyfriend over Oliver and they end up killing the baby because they couldn't come to a simple agreement. The thought of the baby ripping into two is always in her head because she feels like its her fault because she could of stopped the argument by saying "stop", "and lets talk about this" and not keep pulling on the baby. She didn't put all the blame on her self tho, she knows that her bf was over aggressive with her and she knew she was in trouble "let go of him."The one thing she did/ and still loves is her dead 14 month little boy.

ROB aka my guy
Rob is my kind of guy.. from the music he likes to the way he looks at life dealing with girls. my initial impressions of him are basically that he is lost in life. He cant settle down with one girl and as readers we know he wants to find the right girl but just cant. We are introduced to him when he is breaking up with yet another girl, Lura. This was a tough breakup because he really feels for her. he has had many breakups in his life but he talks about his top five in the beginning of the book because they where all his "firsts" dealing with girls.
Rob works at a music store and as readers we can tell he has an obsession dealing with music. He is always talking about his top five lists of artist and songs and again in the beginning of the book it was a top five list of his breakups. I think he likes music so much is because it helps him feel better inside, get away from true life, and mainly the thought of the bad relationships he has had. Im the same way, i love listening to music when I'm down or upset about something because it takes my mind of the specific topic I'm dealing with. I think Rob is like any other normal guy, not everyone can have the Jessica Alba kind of girl and live in fairy tail land. He is just going down a harder path to find his soul mate like most of the guys in todays world.
I really like Rob in this book. He is very fun to read about and the way he speaks and thinks definitely keeps the book moving. I have really enjoyed reading this book and cant wait to see/when he finds his own Jessica!

How to read
I really enjoyed reading this article “How to read” because it was so true and I could relate to it a lot. Some of the important parts I comprehend where:
A.)Put the book down, says Nick Hornby: Reading should be a joy. B.) I am simply pointing out my own tastes and limitations as a reader. C.) And boredom, let's face it, is a problem that many of us have come to associate with books. It's one of the reasons why we choose to do almost anything else rather than read; very few of us pick up a book after the children are in bed and the dinner has been made and the dirty dishes cleared away. D.) We'd rather turn on the television. Some evenings we'd rather go to all the trouble of getting into a car and driving to a cinema, or waiting for a bus that might take us somewhere near one. E.) We'd rather turn on the television. Some evenings we'd rather go to all the trouble of getting into a car and driving to a cinema, or waiting for a bus that might take us somewhere near one.
I picked these statements because they explain exactly what I think about reading. I think reading is fun when I’m interested in it and I can relate to it. When I’m reading something that doesn’t catch my attention at all, I think of other things and not pay attention at all to what I’m reading. I think this article is very important for people my age to read because Hornby’s words are so true. He knows exactly what people think about reading. There wasn’t one thing he said that I really didn’t agree with especially about boredom. The man thing that happens to me when I read, I find myself bored with the topic and I hate it because I never comprehend the facts and I have to re-read it many different times just to understand it. I also like how he was talking about the adults who would read a couple of pages of a book a night and wont finish it for weeks, months, or even years. I found that interesting because I have never thought of that because I used to do that with Harry Potter and I still to this day haven’t finished it. “Please, please: put it down. You'll never finish it. Start something else.”

Journal #1 - reading
When I think about the word “reading”, I dread it with a passion. I think reading is very boring unless I’m reading something that interests me to the max. For example: Harry Potter, and Sports magazines. The reason I dread reading so much is because I’m an athletic person and love to be outside doing something fun with my spare time instead of being stuck in a room that’s all quiet reading about A kid who wants to be a Catcher in Rye when he grows up, or about a man who it took 20 years to find his home in the great land of Ithaca. Reading is fun when I’m reading the Sports Section of the morning paper or the new issue of Sports Illustrated. I like reading about sports because I can relate to, because in a nutshell my life is based around sports.
I wish I liked reading things other than magazines or Harry Potter because I know I would do better in school and enjoy it further. I wish I could read at a faster pase. When I read it feels like I’m reading 10 words a minute. Also when it comes to reading in front of the class, 90% of the time I butcher words so badly that I normally wouldn’t if I was reading to myself and I think that could change if I just read more. I guess reading isn’t my thing, but I do wish it were, because I know I would be more intelligent and more knowledgeable when it comes to every day life.
