MOVIE (how the book and the movie were the same)

The difference between the movie and the book wasn't that big for me becuase it all made sense. I just like how in movies you can relate to it more, and understand it becuase its real life i guess. I really liked the movie becuase who ever played Rob, played his character perfect and really acted the same as the character in the book.. My favorite part of the movie is when he goes back and visits charlie for her dinner party becuase that actress was very "striking" to Jamar and I. Also the book and movies related each other; Rob's monologues were the same and his top five lists were exactly the same also.

Mainly i thought that the movie and the book were very much that same but the movie took place Chicago instead of London. I also liked how the movie wasn't very predictable, for instance if i would of not read the book and just watched the movie i wouldn't be able to predict what was going to happen or who Rob was going to go off on next! I'm ashamed to say "High Fidelity" doesn't make my Top five list of movies of all time but makes my top 5 list of movies "watched in English class/school"

ENDING

I’m glad to say Rob is becoming more of a man and realizing everything isn’t about him. He comes to realization with himself and people and the people of his past a.k.a his breakups and wrong doing relationships. After he saw Laura at the funeral he noticed that she mattered most to him and she was the women that belonged in his life. After they reconnected, he does ask Laura to marry him, i was shocked with the proposal, but even more shocked that she rejected him. Rob took the rejection not to harshly, he was actually at "peace" with himself, he didn't blame himself like all the other rejections he was just like "alright" its cool.... basically he didn't go sulk and listen to his top 5 different cds and feel sorry for himself like he normally would do. When thinking about the end of the book i thought Rob was either going to kill himself because he was so depressed or he was going to marry Laura and live happier ever after. I was WRONG with both guesses, basically the end was basically telling the reader the rob is at a point of "peace" in his life> As readers it kind of left us with: Rob has changed his life and his doings and going to change more for the good and try to live a normal life and just be able to live happy knowing he is who he is and he cant change that.

top five ways to break up with someone

1- aim
2-voice mail
3-text
4-through someone else
5-writing it one there facebook wall
6-introducing another girl as your girlfriend to you current girlfriend

dont have a title for this

In these chapters, Rob admits that he is afraid of death and dying, and especially afraid of the people he loves dying. What role does this fear of death play in his infidelity? Is this a legitimate reason or just another excuse he has made up? What do you think of his response to Linda’s father’s death?

Rob admits he is afraid of dying because once you die, you will never come back. I have had these thoughts also because i always wonder what the world would be like once i die, or will i be remembered and ect. Rob he actually shows he cares about something else about sleeping with women and music. I think this shows another part of Robs identity because now as readers we know there are other things he actually does care about. dying to me, is the scariest thing i have ever thought of because you don't know when its gonna happen. how its gonna happen, and why it happens until the actually dreadful, horrible day comes. When is finds out about Linda's dad, it makes him think about death and definitely scares him because he doesn't want to die and to top it all off he doesn't have anyone to talk to about how he feels. And on a final note as readers we find out that he really doesn't want to come attached to people in the begging of the novel and now we can conclude that the reason for that is that one day those people will die so there is no reason to become so close to them because you don't know when they will be gone. I really don't agree with that because you don't want to look back on the situation and be like i wish i would of been closer to him or her and fond more out about them but now its to late because they are gone!- but hey, thats just me.

Rob aint Grant

Rob goes to visit his ex- girlfriends which makes me mad because he knows that they wont really give him the time a day and just call him out on specific things he did wrong in the past that made their relationship go down hill. But Rob goes anyway because that’s what kind of guy he is. Mainly the answers he were looking for were : “why they left him”, “why did things have to end like they did” questions basically trying to make the girl feel sorry for him. If I were Rob I would feel really embarrassed because to me, it was completely stupid to go back to his ex’s because he knew they would shut him down no matter what he said. All the girls tell him in a nutshell that he wasn’t the one for them and he really didn’t do his part to keep the relationship going. Which is true, Rob really never do anything to make the relationship better he always just did what was easiest and listen to music or arrange his collection when he felt like something was wrong instead of going to talk to his girlfriend and try to work things out. Rob is the kind of guy who only does things that come easy to him, he is very lazy and when it comes to upholding a relationship he is even lazier. Rob is just simply not a lady’s man like my main man Grant!

Olga! she da worst

The Character in this story is named Olga, she is a waitress at a local diner and barely makes minimum wage. When you look at her you can tell she is depressed by her pale face and invisible smile. She wears all black no matter what the occasion is and has many cuts up and down her arms and legs. She is a little over weight because she just had a new born baby. Her life is based around her little new born baby, Oliver. Her best qualities deal with providing for her baby, she is a really hard worker, you can tell my all the calluses on her hands. Her one wish in life is she wants her baby to have a better childhood then she ever had. As a kid Olga, was a bright student and loved her life, until one day she came home and saw her father cheating on her mother with his secretary from work. Her father threatened her life when she said she was going to tell mommy. Every since the moment where her fathers fist put an imprint into her 10 year old jaw she was never the same. When it comes to Olga making friends and such, she is a very shy person and isn't the first person to become friends with a stranger. She only regrets moment in her life: is when she got in a fight with her boyfriend over Oliver and they end up killing the baby because they couldn't come to a simple agreement. The thought of the baby ripping into two is always in her head because she feels like its her fault because she could of stopped the argument by saying "stop", "and lets talk about this" and not keep pulling on the baby. She didn't put all the blame on her self tho, she knows that her bf was over aggressive with her and she knew she was in trouble "let go of him."The one thing she did/ and still loves is her dead 14 month little boy.

ROB aka my guy

Rob is my kind of guy.. from the music he likes to the way he looks at life dealing with girls. my initial impressions of him are basically that he is lost in life. He cant settle down with one girl and as readers we know he wants to find the right girl but just cant. We are introduced to him when he is breaking up with yet another girl, Lura. This was a tough breakup because he really feels for her. he has had many breakups in his life but he talks about his top five in the beginning of the book because they where all his "firsts" dealing with girls.
Rob works at a music store and as readers we can tell he has an obsession dealing with music. He is always talking about his top five lists of artist and songs and again in the beginning of the book it was a top five list of his breakups. I think he likes music so much is because it helps him feel better inside, get away from true life, and mainly the thought of the bad relationships he has had. Im the same way, i love listening to music when I'm down or upset about something because it takes my mind of the specific topic I'm dealing with. I think Rob is like any other normal guy, not everyone can have the Jessica Alba kind of girl and live in fairy tail land. He is just going down a harder path to find his soul mate like most of the guys in todays world.
I really like Rob in this book. He is very fun to read about and the way he speaks and thinks definitely keeps the book moving. I have really enjoyed reading this book and cant wait to see/when he finds his own Jessica!

How to read

I really enjoyed reading this article “How to read” because it was so true and I could relate to it a lot. Some of the important parts I comprehend where:
A.)Put the book down, says Nick Hornby: Reading should be a joy. B.) I am simply pointing out my own tastes and limitations as a reader. C.) And boredom, let's face it, is a problem that many of us have come to associate with books. It's one of the reasons why we choose to do almost anything else rather than read; very few of us pick up a book after the children are in bed and the dinner has been made and the dirty dishes cleared away. D.) We'd rather turn on the television. Some evenings we'd rather go to all the trouble of getting into a car and driving to a cinema, or waiting for a bus that might take us somewhere near one. E.) We'd rather turn on the television. Some evenings we'd rather go to all the trouble of getting into a car and driving to a cinema, or waiting for a bus that might take us somewhere near one.
I picked these statements because they explain exactly what I think about reading. I think reading is fun when I’m interested in it and I can relate to it. When I’m reading something that doesn’t catch my attention at all, I think of other things and not pay attention at all to what I’m reading. I think this article is very important for people my age to read because Hornby’s words are so true. He knows exactly what people think about reading. There wasn’t one thing he said that I really didn’t agree with especially about boredom. The man thing that happens to me when I read, I find myself bored with the topic and I hate it because I never comprehend the facts and I have to re-read it many different times just to understand it. I also like how he was talking about the adults who would read a couple of pages of a book a night and wont finish it for weeks, months, or even years. I found that interesting because I have never thought of that because I used to do that with Harry Potter and I still to this day haven’t finished it. “Please, please: put it down. You'll never finish it. Start something else.”

Journal #1 - reading

When I think about the word “reading”, I dread it with a passion. I think reading is very boring unless I’m reading something that interests me to the max. For example: Harry Potter, and Sports magazines. The reason I dread reading so much is because I’m an athletic person and love to be outside doing something fun with my spare time instead of being stuck in a room that’s all quiet reading about A kid who wants to be a Catcher in Rye when he grows up, or about a man who it took 20 years to find his home in the great land of Ithaca. Reading is fun when I’m reading the Sports Section of the morning paper or the new issue of Sports Illustrated. I like reading about sports because I can relate to, because in a nutshell my life is based around sports.
I wish I liked reading things other than magazines or Harry Potter because I know I would do better in school and enjoy it further. I wish I could read at a faster pase. When I read it feels like I’m reading 10 words a minute. Also when it comes to reading in front of the class, 90% of the time I butcher words so badly that I normally wouldn’t if I was reading to myself and I think that could change if I just read more. I guess reading isn’t my thing, but I do wish it were, because I know I would be more intelligent and more knowledgeable when it comes to every day life.
